BULLETIN 1: (November 28 2005)
Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to announce the 2nd international conference on Quantum Theories and Renormalization Group in Gravity and Cosmology, to be held in Barcelona from July 11 through July 15, 2006.
The website of the event is: http://www.ecm.ub.es/IRGAC2006
The conference will be devoted to the exciting developments in cosmology in recent years and their relation to the achievements in theoretical physics both in quantum field theory and string theory. An important aim of the conference is to confront the current experimental situation with the theoretical work, keeping an eye on the future experiments planning to collect observational data on the cosmological parameters with unprecedented accuracy.
IRGAC 2006 will offer an excellent arena to cosmologists and theoretical high energy physicists to discuss how the next generation of cosmological/astrophysical experiments may restrict the theoretical models proposed up to date to describe the evolution of our Universe.
We are happy to announce that the IRGAC 2006 conference in Barcelona will be held in the year of the 25th anniversary of the successful Inflationary Cosmology paradigm.
Three of our invited speakers at IRGAC 2006 have been deeply involved from the very beginning in shaping this paradigm: Alan Guth (TBC), Andrei Linde and Alexei Starobinsky. See our web page for the complete list of invited speakers and topics of the conference.
IRGAC 2006 is co-hosted among others by the Univ. of Barcelona (UB), the Univ. Autonoma of Barcelona (UAB), the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE) and the Institute for Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC/CSIC).
We appreciate if you bring this announcement to the attention of your colleagues. A second Bulletin will appear in the next few months. Below this mail you will find some more information on the conference, but we recommend you to check the web page given above for continuously updated information.
With best regards,
Joan Solà
(Univ. of Barcelona)
For the Local Organizing Committee of IRGAC 2006.
PS. Some more Info on IRGAC 2006:
The venue of the conference will be the Cosmocaixa museum in
Barcelona:
http://portal1.lacaixa.es/Docs/Chan/99/3-99-10-00000001.html
Cosmocaixa is one of the largest and most original Science Museums in Europe and it hosts international conferences and seminars.
The IRGAC 2006 conference consists of a series of invited plenary talks and two series of parallel talks to be held simultaneously in two conference rooms at Cosmocaixa. Participants that wish to submit a parallel talk should follow the instructions given at the website. You may inform your colleagues about this possibility.
The main subjects of IRGAC 2006 are:
- Recent developments in quantum field theory and string theory, and their influence in gravity and cosmology.
- Dark matter, dark energy and cosmological constant.
- Cosmological perturbations and structure formation.
- Precision measurements in cosmology: high redshift supernovae, CMB and other cosmologically significant observables.
- Vacuum quantum effects, renormalization group and anomalies in gravity and cosmology
The ultimate aim of IRGAC 2006 is to combine the efforts of cosmologists and high energy physicists to address, in a most efficient way, basic problems in cosmology which at the same time appear as fundamental problems of physics, such as the cosmological constant problem, the nature of the dark energy, and the dark matter problem in the Universe.
BULLETIN 2: (May 12 2006)
2nd International Conference on Quantum Theories and Renormalization Group in Gravity and Cosmology.
(July 11-15 2006, Barcelona)

Dear Colleague,
The 2nd international conference on Quantum Theories and Renormalization Group in Gravity and Cosmology will be held in Barcelona from July 11 through July 15, 2006. We provide a reminder of deadlines fast approaching and some general information.
PURPOSE: IRGAC 2006 in Barcelona is a timely conference which will be devoted to the exciting developments in cosmology in recent years with particular emphasis on their relation with the achievements in theoretical high energy physics both in the fundamental areas of quantum field theory and string theory.
Please check the list of main topics in our web site.
STRUCTURE: The IRGAC 2006 conference consists of a series of (invited and submitted) plenary and parallel talks.
INVITED SPEAKERS: see the complete list at our home webpage.
PLENARY and PARALLEL TALKS: Slots for PLENARY TALKS are full by now; sorry, no more room available. However, participants that wish to submit a PARALLEL TALK should follow the instructions given at our web site above. A few slots for parallel talks are still available.
See below for DEADLINES! A preliminary list of all accepted talks to date is available at our webpage.
SPECIAL EVENT: IRGAC 2006 will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Inflationary Cosmology paradigm. It is thus an incomparable occasion to discuss how fundamental physics can help to implement from first principles this enigmatic, albeit highly successful, cosmological paradigm. We are proud to announce that three of our invited speakers have been deeply involved in shaping Inflationary Cosmology from the very beginning:
Alan Guth, Andrei Linde and Alexei Starobinsky.
An special event has been arranged within our program to celebrate this important anniversary, see
http://www.ecm.ub.es/IRGAC2006/Program.htm
VENUE OF THE CONFERENCE: Cosmocaixa. It is one of the largest and most original Science Museums in Europe and it hosts international conferences and seminars. Its name pays tribute to the main subject of conference: the Cosmos. Check the web site:
http://portal1.lacaixa.es/Docs/Chan/99/3-99-10-00000001.html
Information on how to reach Cosmocaixa from the airport and other strategic places of Barcelona is (of course) at our web site.
IMPORTANT PRACTICAL INFO:
The webpage of our event is (again): http://www.ecm.ub.es/IRGAC2006
REGISTRATION: http://www.ecm.ub.es/IRGAC2006/Registration.htm
DEADLINE for EARLY registration: June 1.
