RESUM:
Carbon nanotubes are new materials with special physical and chemical
properties that hold the promise of interesting technological
applications in different fields. Some of those characteristics will
be reviewed. An appropriate combination of their electrical and
chemical properties allows the use of the nanotubes as excellent
sensors. They have also been proposed as candidate materials for
storing hydrogen for automotive applications, and the possibilities of
succeeding in this task will be analyzed at a fundamental level with
the help of electronic structure calculations. Some results on the
elastic properties of these materials will also be discussed.
